The short answer
DentalXChange and Overjet AI get compared often because they're both "dental AI" names, but they solve different problems. DentalXChange is a claims clearinghouse. It verifies insurance eligibility, submits claims, and processes payments.
Overjet is an AI diagnostic-imaging platform. It reads X-rays to flag cavities and bone loss, and has recently added its own insurance-verification and payer-side claims-review tools.
If your bottleneck is administrative, like claims or eligibility or getting paid faster, DentalXChange is the closer fit. If your bottleneck is clinical documentation and case acceptance, Overjet is built for that, and it now competes with DentalXChange on a narrow slice of insurance verification too.

What DentalXChange does
DentalXChange is a clearinghouse connecting dental providers, payers, and software partners for the financial and administrative side of dental care. Its core modules:
- Claims submission: EDI 837 claims processing aimed at first-pass clean claims
- Eligibility AI: real-time and pre-appointment insurance eligibility and benefits verification, synced to the practice schedule and standardized across payers (EDI 270/271)
- ERA and claim status: electronic remittance advice, claim tracking, attachments management
- Credentialing: provider enrollment with payers
- Patient billing: statements and merchant/payment processing
What Overjet AI does
Overjet's core product, Vision AI, analyzes dental X-rays in real time to detect cavities, bone loss, and calculus. Several of these detections carry FDA 510(k) clearance, which Overjet markets as a differentiator. It says it's the only dental-AI company cleared for both bone-level measurement and caries detection.
Beyond imaging, Overjet has expanded into:
- IRIS: AI-native imaging software with automated enhancement
- Insurance Verification: automated coverage checks across 1,000+ payers. This is the feature that puts Overjet in the same conversation as DentalXChange
- Voice AI Suite: ambient clinical documentation, added via its December 2025 acquisition of DentalBee
- Payer-side platform: claims and medical-necessity review across 350+ procedure codes, used by most of the 10 largest U.S. dental insurers
Overjet cites a company-sponsored clinical study claiming 32% more carious surfaces detected with AI assistance. Separately, its own marketing content claims roughly a 25% lift in case acceptance and 18x average ROI, with no named practice or published methodology behind those two figures.

Which one is right for your practice?
Choose DentalXChange if: your priority is getting claims paid faster: eligibility verification, clean claims submission, ERA, and patient billing in one clearinghouse relationship.
Choose Overjet if: your priority is clinical, like catching more disease on X-rays, improving case acceptance with visual patient education, and increasingly, ambient charting. Its insurance-verification feature is a reasonable bonus if you're already invested in the platform for imaging, but it's not why most practices buy it.
Using both isn't unusual. They sit in different parts of the workflow, clinical versus administrative, and aside from the narrow verification overlap, don't really compete for the same budget line.
