D8070 covers comprehensive orthodontic treatment in the transitional (mixed) dentition. Unlike limited treatment (D8020), comprehensive treatment addresses the overall alignment of teeth, correction of the bite, and management of skeletal discrepancies. This is full orthodontic treatment provided while the patient still has both primary and permanent teeth present, typically involving braces on all available teeth.

Billing Guide

Bill this code when:

• Comprehensive (full) orthodontic treatment is provided during the mixed dentition stage
• Treatment addresses overall alignment, bite, and jaw relationship
• The patient has both primary and permanent teeth
• Full-arch braces or aligners are used

Do not bill this code when:

• Only a limited/specific problem is being treated. Use D8020
• The patient has full permanent dentition (adolescent). Use D8080
• The patient is an adult. Use D8090
• Only primary teeth are present. Use D8040 for comprehensive primary (rare)
