Billing Guide

Bill this code when:

• Limited orthodontic treatment is provided to an adolescent with permanent dentition
• Treatment targets a defined problem (single arch, specific tooth, minor correction)
• The patient has permanent teeth (adolescent age, typically 12-18)
• The treatment is not comprehensive full-arch, full-bite correction

Do not bill this code when:

• Comprehensive treatment is provided. Use D8080
• The patient has mixed dentition. Use D8020
• The patient is an adult. Use D8040
• Only a retainer is provided without active treatment
