What This Code Covers

D2975 covers coping. Pins provide additional mechanical retention for a dental restoration in teeth with insufficient remaining structure. This code is billed per tooth in addition to the restoration code.

Billing Guide

Bill this code when:

• The procedure described by D2975 is performed and documented
• The clinical indication supports the procedure
• Documentation meets the payer's requirements for the service

Do not bill this code when:

• A different procedure was actually performed
• The procedure is included in another code being billed at the same visit
• Documentation does not support the medical necessity of the procedure
• The procedure is better described by D2955 (Post removal)

• Most plans cover restorative procedures at 50-80% depending on the specific service
• Downgrades may apply (e.g., porcelain crown downgraded to base metal on posterior teeth)
